- PARENT APPLICATION: The application window opens on February 4, 2026 and closes on March 17, 2026.
- NOTIFICATION OF FUNDING STATUS: Funding notifications will be sent to parents beginning in early April 2026.
- PRIVATE SCHOOL CONFIRMATION: For private school students, parents will indicate the school where their student is enrolled. Private schools will confirm enrollment.
- INITIAL FUNDING: July 1, 2026 - Private school students will receive the first 25% of their award.
- BEGIN USING TEFA FUNDS: August 2026 - TEFA recipients may begin using their funds for the 2026-2027 school year.
- ADDITIONAL FUNDING: October 1, 2026 - Private school students will receive the second 25% of their award. February 1, 2027 - Private school students will receive the remaining 50% of their award.
Families who applied for a TEFA award for the 2026 2027 school year and were found eligible do not need to express their interest in future funding. Families who did not apply, however, are encouraged to complete the form available through the State. It has two benefits: the Comptrollers Office will 1.) provide the respondents updates about the 2027-2028 application process, and 2.) inform the Texas Legislature about the public interest in the program when it convenes in 2027.
